Teignmouth is a pleasant seaside town and working port. An ancient fishing village it was developed during the 18th & 19th centuries with the desire to relax by the sea. Its protected harbour proved irresistible to the French who ravaged the town in the early 1400s Jane Austin, Fanny Burney and the poet John Keats were visitors to the town. Modern times have not passed this town by, the port still exports china clay in many forms. Now delivered to the port by road transport rather than by barge or rail. Modern Teignmouth has excellent connections to Exeter by both road and rail
