Chesil Beach a long, narrow spit of land reaching 18 miles from
Portland Bill to Abbotsbury can be accessed at different locations
between Weymouth and West Bay. Chesil is a steep slope of shingle
fronted by pebbles, which have been polished smooth by the action of the
waves.
The world famous step shelved pebble beach runs beside Abbotsbury and
joins Portland to the mainland.
