Crewkerne is a rugged small market town of ancient foundation that stands on a sheltered sight of an east slope of the Blackdown Hills and has been a place of importance since before the Norman Conquest.
The rugged 15th century Ham-stone church is its best building. It has a west front of almost cathedral splendour, a fine nave roof of unusual type, and a south porch with gargoyles.

The ancient craft of sail making has been given new lease of life through the modern interest in yachting. surrounded by hilly countryside.
