Historic Christchurch unfolds beneath the magnificent 11th century Priory Church which is renowned for it's beautiful architecture. Awarded five stars by Simon Jenkins in his book “England’s Thousand Best Churches”, the Priory is 311 feet long and said to be the longest parish church in ‘England.
The Norman Constable’s House adjacent to the Mill Stream, has one of only five Norman chimneys in Britain as well as one of the earliest toilets, or garderobes, as they were then called!
Just beyond the Norman House are the rest of the ruins of Christchurch Castle and the mote which was probably built around 1100AD to protect the town’s river access. if you are feeling energetic you can climb to the top of the mount and enjoy the view

You can discover all about Christchurch’s rich past geology and natural history by visiting the Re House Museum, adjacent to The Priory. Originally the local workhouse, the museum dates back to 1764 and is set in tranquil gardens.

Place Mill on the Town Quay dates back to Anglo Saxon times and is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. The mill has now been restored an although it is unable to grind corn, you can still see the wheel turn when tidal conditions are right, it is open to the public as an art gallery with changing exhibitions by local artists, there is also a gift shop and interesting displays of artefacts.
